Privacy Policy — Better Clean Desktop

Last updated: 12 October 2026

Better Clean Desktop (the "App") is developed by Bernat Casero i Gumbau. The App is distributed through the Microsoft Store. This policy explains how the application handles your information.

Summary

Better Clean Desktop operates 100% locally on your personal computer. It interacts exclusively with your local desktop directory to clean shortcuts and files. It does not collect, log, transmit, sell, or share any personal data, filenames, or telemetry. It makes no network connections.

What the App accesses

  • Local desktop directory: monitors the user's Desktop and optionally the shared Public Desktop folder exclusively to detect and clean shortcuts and files according to your settings.
  • System settings: reads your Windows theme preference (Dark/Light mode) to adapt the application UI, and checks auto-start preferences.

Where your data is stored

All data remains strictly on your device:

  • Application preferences (cleanup scope, deletion method, theme, retries, auto-start) are stored locally in the Windows Registry under HKCU\Software\BetterCleanDesktop.
  • Diagnostic logs are written locally to %LOCALAPPDATA%\BetterCleanDesktop\logs\ for troubleshooting.

No data is ever stored in cloud databases or transmitted off your machine.

Data retention and deletion

Because no personal data or telemetry is collected, retention is minimal:

  • Settings remain in the local registry until you uninstall the app or reset preferences.
  • Removed desktop files are moved to your local Windows Recycle Bin (unless permanent deletion is selected), where you can restore or permanently delete them at any time.

Uninstalling the application removes the binaries. Registry keys and local logs can be cleared manually if desired.

Permissions

  • runFullTrust: Required because Better Clean Desktop is a desktop utility that integrates with the Windows system tray notification area, monitors desktop directories via FileSystemWatcher, and sends removed files to the Windows Recycle Bin using native shell operations.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children and does not collect any information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

Any future revisions to this policy will be posted on this page with an updated modification date.
